How to get through sore muscles?

There are some days when you go all out in your workout session, going beyond your limits and lifting more than you usually do. And sometimes, this can lead to sore muscles. But, there is nothing to worry about. This happens when you put in extra efforts in exercising around, which tends to put stress on your muscles. This stress causes Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), which lasts for around two to three days. However, this shouldn’t feel like a setback. Instead, this is the moment when you should work towards giving ample time to relax and grow your muscles. And for this, we have listed some lightweight workouts to undertake, when you have sore muscles.

  1. Yoga

It is the union of physical, mental and spiritual practice, where slow and steady stretching with calm breathing techniques, boost the flow of blood and oxygen throughout your body. This helps in relieving the pain, calming your muscles, and getting you ready for your next gym session.

  1. Weight Training

Strength-building exercises that use your body weight, provide resistance against gravity. This group of exercises help in getting the body back in an active mode.

  1. Light Cardio Session

Brisk walking or jogging on a treadmill, stair climbing using the elliptical machine and cycling improves blood circulation in your body. Proper blood flow helps in repairing the temporarily frozen muscles and getting you back on track.

  1. Resistance Bands

Stretching helps in the circulation of blood through your muscles and resistance bands can help you with stretching your chest, back and tricep muscles, which can be otherwise difficult to stretch.

“We are focused on bringing out the best among our patrons and that is why we have experienced trainers to help in planning out the workout schedule according to different body types and requirements. The routine is planned in such a way that it includes tapering sessions, which help them stay active throughout. You only have One Body to live in so take care of it.”

5 Important Questions you need to ask before joining a Gym

Today, there are a number of fitness centres promising to give you that shredded look, you have always been wishing for. They tempt you with deals and offers which you won’t be able to resist. However, it’s up to you to select the best option where you get the most out of your money, with dedicated trainers, good equipment, and facilities.

Now, you don’t have to worry because we have listed some of the most important questions you need to keep in mind before joining a gym.

1. Are you ready to dedicate a certain amount of time to fitness, every day?

This should be the first question that you should be asking yourself before thinking about joining a gym. Because like any other work, getting fit requires a huge amount of dedication and discipline. It’s not a day’s work, it requires consistency and commitment to go beyond your limits. You should only be joining a gym if you are willing enough to give what it takes.

2. Do you take a free trial before joining the gym?

Once you have convinced yourself and are ready to dedicate a certain amount of time to fitness daily, start looking for a gym that will best suit your expectations. Look for a gym that is offering a free trial. This way, you will be able to try out the services that the gym has to offer, how experienced are the trainers, how is the environment at the gym and what all facilities are available. This will help in choosing the best suitable gym for you.

3. How are the trainers?

This is one of the most important aspects to keep in mind, as trainers are the ones who chart out your workout plan according to your body type and requirements. Just like an engineer can’t prescribe you medicine, not every person with a well-built body can be a trainer. Always look for a gym which has certified and experienced trainers at service.

4. Is the gym equipped with good quality machines?

While on your trial period, it is important to check whether the gym is equipped with quality fitness machines and are maintained in a good state or not. Machines are an integral part of weight training and strength building. Therefore, go for a gym which has a state of the art set up.

5. Does the gym maintain a hygiene check?

Hygiene is one of the most important factors to consider while looking for a gym. Go for a gym which maintains a regular hygiene check. Evaluate the cleanliness of the facility, look out if the machines are clean and free from sweat, if the washrooms are clean and if there are cleaning personnel in the gym regularly.

When you get satisfactory answers to all the above questions, only then take a membership. One such gym, where you can get the best out of your money is MMA Matrix. A homegrown fitness chain of Bollywood actor, Tiger Shroff and his sister, Krishna Shroff, MMA Matrix, accredited by All India Mixed Martial Arts Association (AIMMAA), offers state of the art facilities, equipped with the best quality equipment, with certified trainers at service, conscious of maintaining a regular hygiene check and is open for all age groups.

“We started MMA Matrix not just to promote Mixed Martial Arts in India, but also to propagate the idea and importance of fitness in one’s life. With that drive, we are focused on building both mental and physical strength among our patrons.”

5 tricks to Balance Your Work Life and Workout Life

Keeping up with corporate life and personal life together can get a tad bit tedious. Juggling between the two, you might have compromised on a few important and significant things that used to play an important role in your life. Either it is the lack of time or fatigue that kicks in after a long day. A day which is full of not-so-rhythmic routine of meetings, presentations, tasks and jazz, but demands you to keep a check on your good health! After all, don’t you work hard to lead a happy and a healthy life?

That!

We often miss that ‘we work to lead a happy and healthy life’ part. But alongside, time constraints also pull us towards skipping this essential part of the day. This doesn’t mean that you miss out on it. This rather calls for a change in a lifestyle that balances your work life with your workout life. So if you find it difficult to imagine, let alone to see it happening for real, get to know how you can do it in the pointers mentioned below:

  1. Sketch out your daily schedule

Finding time to fit your workout sesh in your daily routine might get difficult. So what do you do? Nothing big, all you have to do is make a detailed sketch of your daily activities and find time to squeeze in your workout time. The more detailed (time to time) your list is, the better you know where you can make time, even if it is for 20-30 mins a day! Although you might not be able to find time everyday, it’s ok. A daily workout of 10-15 mins in the gym is all that is essential for a day.

  • List your favorite workouts

You can’t cover a spectrum of workout in a short span of time! So the wisest thing to do is to list down some of the most beneficial and your favorite workouts routines. It could be best if you could practice both cardio and strength training in a justified period of time; if not, you can take up only cardio or strength and carry them out thoroughly. Remember, while you’re in the gym workout using different equipment and styles of it. This would bring more flexibility in your workout session and help you with various kinds of benefits.

  • Keep your gym bag handy!

Your excuses are less impactful when you keep yourself ready for your workout routine. Before you run to work or after your work hours, a trip to the gym is not as stressful if you choose to do it on your way! Getting ready at the gym and rushing to the office or changing at the office and then rushing to the gym, becomes an easier task than to take a detour. Also when you’re ready for an activity, it becomes a motivation for you to go ahead and do it. So carry that pair of motivation packed in your gym bag and assure yourself of a good workout time.

  • Workout with your buddy

Either early in the morning or after work hours, a friend can be a great help and support for you to stick to your workout plans. From helping you wake up to being your motivation for a good chatty workout session after a long day at work, you get someone to look forward to in your workout times. Also, a healthy competition to achieve your goal is never bad, right? You can challenge each other or throw short-term goals to achieve your fit self.

  • Reward yourself for every milestone

You won’t enjoy your efforts and hardwork until you reward yourself for that. Promise yourself a reward for every goal or milestone that your cross. From a huge hearty meal to a luxurious spa session, anything that drives you to put in more effort and heart into working out, do it! Not only you’ll be fit and active but also positive and fresh towards ideas at work.

A gym that supports and understands your hectic life and provides for trainers that curate you a  workout plan, is nothing less than a blessing today! At MMA Matrix, get this privilege of having trained under experienced trainers who work with you, and help you achieve your goals.

6 Reasons Why Kids Must Learn MMA

MMA for Kids

As much as we think that being an adult is a very stressful thing, and coping up with countless responsibilities is yet another ball game altogether; let’s get to agree that kids these days also have a stressful life. In school they have to put up with bullying (as much as you disagree, or are sure it doesn’t happen; it exists) low self-confidence, numerous distractions and a lot more. At this early age, it becomes crucial for them to overcome these.

MMA – Mixed Martial Arts is one certain way to get your kid come out of the cocoon and bloom into a confident, peaceful, fearless person. And if you think why just MMA? Well, every martial art has it own benefits and specialty. MMA (as the name suggests) is a blend of major martial art forms and delivers the best of each! And in a way, it turns out to be better than individual martial art practices

Here take a look at some reasons why your kid must pursue MMA –

1. Become Bully-Proof:

As much as a thought-provoking place or an enlightening place a school can be, for some it is a place where they are bullied. It is hard to believe, but schools can be a difficult space for kids when they go through bullying or mental trauma. Because you can’t always be there to help and defend your kid, they have to learn and do it on their own.

Once they get into MMA, not only will they get confidence of standing up against bullying but also handle the situation with utmost calmness (because Martial Arts is all about peace) and help others who’re going through bullying as well.

2. Instills Discipline and Focus:

Mixed Martial Arts is all about discipline and focus. Two most important aspects for kids when they’re in their learning and growing phase of life. Along with strong training, the kids tend to perform better in academics and sports when they are disciplined and have utmost concentration in whatever they do.

3. Builds Social Skills:

While training, even a shy or an introvert kid starts opening up with their instructors and teammates. Learning the artform together and developing a passion for it, binds the kid with his/her peers and instructor. This develops a sense of team spirit in the child, a respect for everyone and standing up for things they firmly believe in. This results in better or improved social skills for kids, which is not only reflected in the training arena, but wherever they go.

4. Understand Value of Hardwork

MMA training is intensive and requires hardwork, consistency and dedication. Your child will get to know that only hardwork will make them a good fighters and will bring them closer to being better each day! It’ll make them realize that they’ll have to put in their 100% in everything they do to become successful; and nothing other than hardwork is going to make them achieve their goals.

With this they’ll understand the importance of studying and putting in efforts to up their grades.

5. Cope with Failure & Come Out Stronger

Life is not always kind to us adults, and the kids too. Even they have their moments of failure, where they feel disappointed. It can be because of their grades, a bad experience or anything. Practicing MMA inculcates the ‘Never Back Down’ attitude in kids and pushes them to get back on their feet, after they’ve fallen. It helps them tackle mental stress and come out stronger, with a will to improve. Also in life, MMA gets you ready to face the obstacles in life and conquer them all with grace and calmness.

6. Keeps them in the best of their health

Yes, MMA training is a bit intense, but it gets you results that shows! The training aids your child’s fitness by multiple folds and keeps them active and in their best shape. The kids are motivated to make healthy lifestyle choices at a young age and are kept at bay from diseases, because of their good workout pattern.

This also makes them stay away from sitting on the couch for odd hours and playing video games, and actually take up an active life.

Well there are more reasons than these to state why your kid must pursue MMA, but these are the most important factors. A kid becomes mentally and physically strong with MMA and develops respect and good attitude towards his/her peers. They become more responsible and start on with their life having a positive outlook. Our coach says,

“The important thing is to have a strong foundation, so the earlier you start the better it gets!”

Why you should choose MMA over other Martial Arts!

Being aware of and trained in one or the other martial art is essential in today’s date. Why? Because you always need to be prepared for the uncalled situations, and shouldn’t wait for any reasons to take up martial arts. Whether you sign-up for Karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo or any other martial art, each of the combat sports has its own set of discipline and rules, which a martial artist has to abide.

While most of the martial arts will teach you how to defend, only in a particular way, like – Boxing teaches you how to punch, but limits you to when it comes to ground fighting or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches you how to subdue someone, but restricts you when it comes to standing up & fighting or punching.

But, when all the Martial Arts are put together – we get Mixed Martial Arts. A blend of boxing, wrestling, judo, brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate, muay thai (Thai boxing), and other disciplines. Training you to master the grappling and striking techniques both, here’s why you must choose MMA over other Martial Art Forms –

1.Realistic Fight Mechanism

Various martial arts don’t simulate a realistic defense and fight situation. MMA is created to tackle such situation and take charge upon fighting techniques that are beyond a particular style of martial arts. To be able to ace the overall fighting ground, the MMA artists are supposed to master the art of both striking and grappling.

2. Strength and Conditioning

MMA is a very consuming combat sport that requires a little extra effort. Because it is the mixed kind of martial art form, it has the training discipline of different defense styles; which makes it a bit taxing. But this extra effort, strengthens the fighters and conditions them for worst case scenario.

3. Relieves Stress

MMA is a great way to relieve stress. Aggression through fighting releases the built up stress and makes you feel liberated and light. A good MMA session after which you’re drenched in sweat, tired to the core, have a big appetite and ready to call it a day, is nothing less than bliss. You don’t get time to overthink and get rid of all the negativity, during your training session.

4. Inculcate Competitiveness

MMA is a combat sport made on the fighting spirit that triggers the will to win. The drive shall help you take better decisions in life and also improve other aspects that are related to your professional or personal life. With this ‘Never-Back-Down-Attitude’ you’ll be ready to face the challenges thrown at you at any point of time.

5. Problem Solving Skill

MMA is made with distinct kinds of martial arts that has its own specialties. It incorporates all kinds of techniques that requires the fighter to emerge as a winner. During the fight, an MMA fighter strategies each of his moves in a speck of time to defeat their opponent. This skill comes to use in different aspects of life that only gets polished while practicing MMA.

With these reasons to back MMA as the ultimate Martial Art Sport, we’re sure you’ve got your own reasons to opt for this too. The mental and physical benefits gained from this combat sport is unmatched. Not only does MMA unleashes a fighter in you, but also refines you as a warrior of your life. Alan, Operations Director MMA Matrix, says…

“There is no life worth living without movement…you’re lifeless if you’re not moving!!!”

5 Reasons Why Having a Personal Trainer is Important

Many believe that working out is just another activity that doesn’t really need any planning or a structure. Much like shopping for groceries or selecting an ice-cream flavour, people assume following any random routine for their exercise would work just fine and help them in achieving their goals. But NO. In no way that assumption holds correct value and get you your desired results in a set frame of time.

Personal Trainers are specialist teachers who know their subject, look after strategizing your fitness regime and help you achieve your target in desired time. Because every person has a different body and capacity, a personal trainer dedicates himself to each of its clients to tailor their fitness plan.

Let’s get to know some reasons why having a personal trainer is important:

  1. Better Results: A personal trainer makes sure you practice selected exercises that brings you closer to your goal. Doing your regime properly and following a strict routine, a personal trainer makes your target their own, and motivate, encourage and push you to achieve it.
  2. Set Realistic Goals: Who doesn’t want to lose fat or gain muscles right away!? But let’s face the reality, no magic happens overnight. A good personal trainer will help you set realistic goals that you’ll be able to achieve as per your effort, capacity, diet and many more factors.
  3. Overcoming Plateaus: Even the most devoted gym-goer dreads the ‘plateau’. When one stops experiencing any results in their body, the motivation to keep going to the gym dwindles. A personal trainer plays a very important role here. They help you identify new techniques to push you beyond the plateau, keeping you ever encouraged.
  4. Reduce Chances of injuries: Form is really important when it comes to working out. While a right posture fetches you benefits, the wrong one can injure you fatally. A personal trainer, ensure you perform the exercises correctly with the right posture, to maximise the results.
  5. Keep the regime interesting: To keep you motivated and make you look forward to working out, a personal trainer formulates a plan that makes you have fun. They introduce multiple challenges and bring in a change every now and then. Your workout routine hence doesn’t remain monotonous and boring at all.

At MMA Matrix, our Personal Trainers hold years of experience and proper qualifications. They expert the art of training and provide you with tailored fitness regime. They possess all the ingredients to be your partner in fitness, confidant and the best trainer you’ll ever have!

Unlocking the best of Martial Arts with Meditation

Each Fighter/Practitioner is on a search to find a move or a technique that can help them better his/her game. Spending multiple hours in the gym, practicing martial arts forms relentlessly have their bodies drained out of energy and their mind, flushed with many thoughts. But all that what a fighter really needs is that special place of “Calmness” in the mind to channelize and process all that is going on in their head. Although, the most overlooked…yet a simple and effective way that can bring out the controlled warrior in you…is Meditation. It calls for refocus, reloading and restructuring of everything that goes in during strenuous physical and mental pressure.

Meditation and control
Meditation helps you clear your mind and unlink yourself from the emotional stress, fear, mental block and other subconscious things that bother you. It also restrains the effects of the emotional baggage on your physical output such as early fatigue, inattentiveness, alertness etc. Through meditation you start disciplining your inner self and have a command over your mind and emotions. Elevating your confidence and banishing your fears, doubts and everything else that brings you down, meditation keeps you up and about.
The biggest and the best names in the martial arts dedicate a part of their success to
meditation. A practice which they believed gave them a direction to let their energy flow
and better their technique. A lot to offer, meditation has proven to help the professionals as much as it has helped the beginners.

How Meditation benefits in Martial Arts Training?
Meditation has a lot many benefits when it comes to channelizing energy, concentration, and focus. But it accounts for a lot more than that:
a. Increasing the efficiency:
While meditating, the mind and the body of a fighter/practitioner are relaxed. This
supports high grasping power and improves the alertness and concentration of
the fighter/practitioner. The moves that you learn over time and with practice, are
delivered better off by doing meditation.
    b. Contributes to visualization:
Giving a good amount of time and dedication to meditation, the visualizing power
of the fighter/practitioner is enhanced. From this, the fighter/practitioner visualizes
themselves performing a physical task that helps them bettering it in reality. The
muscles are activated towards reaching the set aim in the imagination and encourages your mind to pursue it. This pushes your limit mentally and makes it easier for your body to execute it and achieve it.
     c. Catalyst in recovery:
Like any other physical activity it’s very common for the fighters/practioners to
carry some bruise and toll on their bodies. And that takes time to recover. Through meditation, the healing and recovery of the person becomes strong, when compared to those who don’t meditate. It happens so because meditation boosts your immunity system and may prevent injury that can affect your training and performance.
Meditation is very beneficial if you give it some dedicated time everyday. Bringing out
the warrior in you and boosting your every punch and kick, meditation empowers you
mentally and physically. Make this a habit and you’ll only head towards achieving your
best.

MMA Matrix – Redefining Fitness

In the fitness driven lifestyle of today, if you go out and ask people about what their understanding of fitness or what their definition of fitness is, we’re sure not one answer is going to be the same! To hundred people, there are hundred opinions for the same thing. So, how do we suggest if something is deemed to be called ‘fit’ or not?

Our idea of being fit is always far-fetched from our reality. The fit version of us, in our head, is always toned, strong and much more appealing than how we currently are. And that ignites the hunger to strive for more and get better and better. To achieve that ‘ideal’ model of us, we sometimes over exhaust ourselves and forget to understand how much ‘fit’ is fit for us!

To think someone who is in shape is fit, might be one of the biggest misconceptions you’ve ever had. ‘Being Fit’ merely does not mean being in shape. Fitness is a vast aspect, of which a good and toned body is the result.

A healthy and a fit person can be considered as the one who is free from diseases, in control of all the limits in the body such as the cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, triglycerides level, blood pressure etc. and have an alert body and mind! Yes, it might be difficult to get all of that in control, but the effort to balance these numbers and levels, gets you in the fit and healthy zone already! Let’s face it in reality, it is only theoretical to be absolutely fit and healthy. But this definitely does not mean that one doesn’t put any effort to achieving a fit self. Being fit mentally and physically makes you lead a happy life and invites positivity around you. It promotes a positive outlook and drives the spirit to face the challenges in life.

This spirit is what makes the essence of fitness. The positivity, the body and mind that supports it and the alertness of the ‘present’ which one lives in. It is this spirit we at MMA Matrix try and inculcate in our members, rather everybody who is associated with us. Yes, we provide A to Z for physical fitness, but we also provide for the mental calmness that one needs. Be it through sweating it out, fighting it out or entering the calm zone. We know the difference between ‘getting fit’ and over-exerting. Hence, our trainers and instructors advice you a routine that is as per your body capabilities and needs. Nothing more, nothing less.

MMA Matrix believes in its members leading a life, that makes gives them faith that they can achieve anything they want, and that they are living the best version of themselves, right now! There’s a lot when it comes to what fitness contributes in, and we strive to strike that balance, that one’s body and mind needs.
